CLS2021 Selection Symposium
cls 26 January 2021 News
The CLS2021 Selection Symposium took place on Monday, 25 January and Tuesday, 26 January, 2021. Thirty candidates for the doctoral training program of the Max Planck ETH Center for Learning Systems (CLS) presented scientific talks and met with members of the CLS community in a completely online event.
Symposium participants were candidates for the unique fellowship program of CLS, where Ph.D. students are co-supervised by one advisor from ETH, and one from the MPI for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen and Stuttgart, or an external CLS Senior Fellow. CLS doctoral fellows are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities offered by both organizations and to actively seek cross-group collaborations. Each Ph.D. fellow has a primary location (chosen based on interests and match) and spends one year at the other location as well.
This year’s candidates to join the program were selected from a large field: in response to our Fall 2020 call for applications we received over 900 applications. The thirty candidates represented 15 different nationalities and joined the Symposium from locations spanning 14 time zones - quite a challenge for some participants! Successful candidates will join CLS from April 2021 onwards.
