Project Management for 1st Year Scholars: S4 Workshop

A doctorate is a complex and long lasting project. If it is not usefully structured from the beginning it is easy to lose sight of the bigger picture and often also motivation in a maze of possibilities. This S4 workshop is designed to help new doctoral researchers gain insights into proper project management.

Developing a full understanding of your goals – for the doctorate as well as for the labor market entry which follows – is a prerequisite for an efficient working process. This will allow a strategic and reflexive approach starting with the selection of a suitable topic through to the realistic conceptualization of the different phases of work. Participants will improve their skills as project manager by:
- defining goals effectively
- using project management tools to plan and execute scientific projects successfully
- improve self organization by applying appropriate time management tools
- learn techniques for effective communication, delegation, team motivation and conflict management
More About our Trainer: After finishing a Master degree in chemistry at the University of Freiburg i. Br., Christina obtained her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Bonn. From 2000 to 2003, she was a Research Associate at the neurobiology laboratory at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, working on neurotransmitter release. From 2006 to 2010 she was part time lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Lübeck. During her scientific career, she co-authored more than 10 peer-reviewed publications and was involved in several grant applications. In 2004, she was co-founder of the ProSciencia Beratungs GmbH, where she focuses on acquisition and scientific management of technology driven research projects, support in grant- and paper writing as well as training on related topics. Since 2010 she is active as an evaluator for the European Commission within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie funding program of FP7 and Horizon 2020.
