Buse Aktaş receives L’Oréal UNESCO award „For Women in Science“

Düsseldorf, August 31, 2026 – L’Oréal, the German National Commission for UNESCO, and the German Humboldt Network are once again honoring four outstanding young female scientists with the “For Women in Science” Award for their exceptional research contributions. The award ceremony will take place on September 16 at D’Haus, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus. The recipients are researchers from TU Dresden, the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, the Technical University of Munich’s Straubing campus, and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart.
Dr. Buse Aktaş conducts research on multi-purpose materials at the intersection of mechanics, robotics, and materials science. She develops materials that can be transformed from a flexible state to a stable state through pressure. This allows a component to serve, for example, as a soft robotic finger or as a rigid, load-bearing support, thereby conserving valuable resources. Find out more here.
